March Honors

This month in the Honors class we begin our large project and focus on building portfolios for the upcoming Hermitage Museum Art Show.

This year we are exploring a fantastic lesson I first discovered from Barbara Rhodes, retired art teacher. I have tweaked it and modified some of the ideas involved to make it a bit more personal. I'm excited to see what our kids will do with this!

Students will be given a handout containing the specific instructions that I will go over in class. This will be a three to four week painting assignment.

N8.1: Understand and apply steps in artmaking.
NAI.2: Identify and use steps in creative art making processes.

Febuary 24-28

This month the exploratory art students will be working with the elements of art, focusing on one or two each week beginning with line and value.

Objective: The students will show understanding of value through the correct rendering of light and dark hues in an optical illusion design.

N6.4.1.a: Color-relationships
N6.4.1.d: Value-gradation

Lesson: Students will create a design showing their skill using value. They may use colored pencil, regular pencil and a variety of methods to create value including shading, hatching and stippling.
Homework: Complete at home if not finished in class. Due Friday 2.28 for a project grade (35%).
